May the Fourth Star Wars Cupcakes

Creative slump much? Indeed.
A year since my last post? Really?

May the 4th on the horizon definitely got me excited after seeing a Princess Leia with Oreo buns cupcake on a post by Jessica Ritz.
I used the white Rainbow cake recipe over at
http://www.whisk-kid.com/2009/08/say-it-with-cake.html
However something went wrong this time and it was heavy. I would like to blame the oven, but it could well be a bit too much liquid. The eggs were HUGE, literally, it said so on the carton with a picture of shirtless guys on the front BBQing.

I used white fondant and Wilton gels to colour them. A few places I painted the colour on. For Luke's hair and the Jawa's hood I used caramel chews, not a good idea. They melted in the Tatooine suns. I saved Darth for last and had some assembly problems so a couple cakes have toothpick props, but my grandchildren are old enough to catch these. I think a better design stencil for each head in the future so I can whip them up quickly but I was winging it off my drawing. The faces were fastened on with Betty Crocker White frosting. A couple barley sugars would have made great eyes for C3P0. I used M&Ms.

My tasters inform me the cake is great... Leia and Luke, the Jawa and Lando are gone!

Darth is too big for his cupcake...
