Jo Sharp Crochet Hexagon Skirt

I have a number of WIPs, UFOs and other delights ATM. I think I need to set some goals to finish one a week until I have cleared them out. Some are VERY old! My little crocheted amigurumi Elizabeth Bennett still awaits her Mr Darcy.
The problem is, there always seems to be a problem. Today I finally moved into action to make a test recipe of the rainbow cake over at The Whisk Kid's blog http://www.whisk-kid.com/2009/08/say-it-with-cake.html. Well, wouldn't you know the brand new love of our live's red Kitchen-Aid started making a little noise that became an unholy noise. I had to finish the cake with an old hand mixer. Then I had to drive Dad out to the Dr and left the cake in the oven. Mom remembered thank goodness. Now we need to find the receipt and take it back Monday. (after frantically looking for the manual, found with an un-posted warranty card and no receipt) Meantime I have a naked cake and could care less about frosting.
So, the skirt. I hunted and found the yarn I wanted on Ebay, ordered the various colours from the same shop - yay! After dramas with the instructions I was not clear on, I got the motifs sized correctly as possible and whoa...wait, what? None of the colours in the layout made sense. Emails later I finally figured it out myself by drawing up the whole layout in Illustrator and puzzling the placement. Here it is in case anyone has had the same dramas. Follow the patterns b&w diagram with the list on my diagram. (it looks right to me now anyway)

So, after getting the stack of hexagons complete I find I should have gotten the 4 balls of black! So since these photos below I have been waiting and then stalled. I have been laying the columns out on my dressers and doing one or two a day.

A nice little stack of motifs my Dad said looked delicious (he saw the bright green and blue in front of the coffee machine). Everything looks like cookies to him. He tries to eat the raw dough if you don't get it past him on the way to the oven fast enough. NOT cooked yet Dad!

Placement trial before half motifs were done. Need to work on my lighting, but it's just my iPhone. I am now sewing the column together and then they are joined. Maybe it will be done here before next winter.
Next on the list will be my grand-daughters cardigan that I stitched together wrong 3x (how do you get a sleeve sideways and the other upside down? - http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/flower-child%E2%80%99s-sweater), then poor Mr Darcy with his half bald head http://www.flickr.com/photos/26023326@N08/4543461040/. And a gift tea cosy I can't remember what I impromptu'ed up to make a cake shape on the first side :( Then I can can do any matryoshka cosy before tackling the cupboard full of felting and fimo projects.
